Rennes coach Frederic Antonetti has demanded consistency from his players ahead of their Ligue 1 trip to Saint-Etienne in Ligue 1 on Sunday.
Rennes, level on points with third placed Lyon, can strengthen their top three claims with victory at the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard.
But Antonetti knows the passionate atmosphere created by the home fans could make things difficult.
“We need to be consistent. We need consistency throughout each game and the season. We can’t allow ourselves to have a dip in form before the end of the season. We must work on that,” Antonetti said.
“They have an exceptional fan base and a wonderful atmosphere there that can be positive to them but on the other hand can also be very hostile if they are not playing well. In terms of history, they have that culture of winning. Rennes doesn’t have that yet.”
“In terms of passion in France, there are very few equivalents to Saint-Etienne. I lived there for three years. Maybe Marseille and Lens. I don’t see other clubs similar to them, even in Europe. You really have to live there to really see the enthusiasm for the club in the region.”
