Valencia midfielder David Albelda was thrilled to have signed a new contract with the club, stating that he wants to play ‘until I drop’.
The 34-year-old veteran put pen to paper on a one-year extension earlier in the week and is particularly happy to remain for his 16th year on the club’s books.
“Football knows no past or future, it is down to good athletic performance; I want to continue until I drop,” the former Spain international said.
“Enthusiasm and being strong psychologically are my main drivers to continue. However, every year, every time I sit here I think how difficult the next year will be to put in good performances.”
“I have done more this year to merit a renewal than last year.”
“I have never regretted staying in Valencia. Overall I cannot complain, I had a very bad year (through injury), but this was overcome. I have chosen to stay because that was what I want.”
“I have renewed for another year, but at this age you can no longer hide that it is difficult to get an extension. I hope to be available to the coach if I can be; I’m happy to be here after all these years and all has happened.”
Valencia travel to take on Barcelona at Camp Nou on Sunday in La Liga.
